Happy July 1st: Lisa A. Henkel’s renewed AND extended contract.

Look at that today is July 1; the start of Lisa A. Henkel’s renewed AND extended contract until June 2017. We still do not know if she received a raise with this new contract because the confirmed receipt of a FOIL request on June 17 for a copy, has not received a response. They have 7 days to respond….How many days has it been?

You can post a comment about anything you want, it doesn't have to be about this…now...GO! Come on we know you have something to say.

  1. I would like to see a copy of her evaluation. It is unclear to me how she was awarded a raise given the parent and teacher unrest throughout her employment as exhibited at all the board meetings. Her major financial mistake regarding transportation/bus that cost the district thousands of dollars. She doesn't have a clue what she is doing. She was sent in help in the form of "coaches" - previous school administrators who tried to help her understand how to do her job, but she was deemed "uncoachable" So, the question lingers...what exactly was she evaluated on? and by whom? Very questionable behavior is being rewarded in this district - it desperately needs to be investigated.

  2. All through this, I have been very disappointed with the BOE's response and the position they have taken. I was appalled at the comment by the BOE President on the local news, and am disappointed all over again. I just visited the school website and read the BOE statement again. While it states the same as was said on the news, it stirs me up all over again. Their Statement that the No Confidence vote issued by the WTA is "disappointing" and "surprising" is ridiculous. What IS "disappointing" and "surprising" is the public statement of the BOE. If the BOE had addressed the concerns of the teachers at previous meetings, they wouldn't have had to take this "public" course. Rather, it is "inappropriate" of the BOE not to have taken these issues seriously previously. And the further statement by the BOE that they "strongly support Dr. Henkel's efforts"!! What about strongly supporting our teachers, who surely were hesitant to take this drastic position, but did so in order to stand up and protect the students they so deeply care about ... what about strongly supporting them??? It's time to stop portraying the teachers as just being "emotional" disgruntled employees upset over contract negotiations. You know this goes much deeper than that. Isn't it time for you to eat crow and realize you made the wrong decision in hiring Dr. Henkel, to finally take serious these allegations and do the right thing. I think the parents, teachers, community and taxpayers will have a whole lot more respect for you if you admit the mistake and take the proper course of action to fix it ... before our children and their education are further affected to their detriment.

  3. The current BOE are not upholding their responsibility of oversight. One member is hardly ever there! There is no way of contacting them directly as they do not post their email addresses, postal addresses or phone numbers. So how do they get their information? From the Superintendent who paints them a rosy picture based on what they want to hear. They are totally responsible for the extended contract. They are totally responsible for the initial hiring and research into Dr. Henkel's mysterious past. The truth is coming out. It is only a matter of time before they are held accountable for their lack of access and mistakes. The question is will they act like adults and fix the problem or continue to behave like belligerent teenagers and post messages that have nothing to do with the problem. They have lost the staff and the parents.

  4. The Board of Education in the Wynantskill School District is a lost cause. The BOE simply refuses to address the issues. The BOE is unwilling to listen to and or respond to any parental or community member concerns. The BOE has completely disregarded the no confidence act submitted by the teachers, and has chosen to side with an incompetent superintendent who has a history of bullying and intimidation. The BOE is no longer representing the people of this district, and in no way represents what is in the best interest of the district. It is time to reach out to the NYS Board of Regents, the governing body over all educational activities within New York State and let him know what a mess the administration has made of this district, how they take no accountability, and how they are destroying this community. The link below is the representative for Rensselear county, and he also has a history working in the North Colonie Schools.
